Dr Clement Mwaanga

About

I am a Dean and Senior Lecturer at the School of Business Studies at Mulungushi University in Zambia, boasting over a decade of experience in academia and research, with a focus on entrepreneurship, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), innovation, and development studies. I hold a PhD in Management Studies with a specialization in Entrepreneurship from the University of South Africa, an MBA from Oxford Brookes University in England, and a Bachelor of Science in Production Management. My research is driven by a keen interest in understanding how contextual elements—such as institutional gaps, limited resources, cultural norms, and policy frameworks—affect entrepreneurial behavior, business resilience, and innovation ecosystems in these rapidly evolving markets. I aim to identify the factors that either facilitate or hinder entrepreneurial success in resource-limited settings and explore how policy, education, and institutional structures impact the growth of SMEs. I have extensively published in peer-reviewed journals and shared my findings at conferences. My recent research delves into topics like digital transformation in African SMEs, informal entrepreneurship, social innovation in rural areas, and the impact of entrepreneurship education on fostering entrepreneurial intentions among young people. Additionally, I work as a consultant for various development agencies and government bodies, providing expertise on SME policy, innovation ecosystems, and enterprise development strategies in low-income environments. Beyond research and consultancy, I am actively engaged in mentoring emerging scholars and supervising postgraduate research. As a strong proponent of practical impact, I collaborate with local businesses and entrepreneurship support organizations to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
